  • Leith FAB 1st XI v. Westquarter

July 15th, 2008 by Charlie · No Comments

On a cold and windy day at the Links we stumbled to our second successive victory. Having won the toss and put Westquarter into bat on track no batsman would relish, runs were hard to come by as Mathos and Lawson kept the batsman (and everybody else) guessing. The introduction of Rana (6-21) shook things up and with Heinitz and Harper both proving difficult to play a score under 100 looked likely. The stand in captain Colin Fox had other ideas though and smashed 59 with 5 sixes to take them to 140 all out, with good straight bowling from Brewis (3-8) crucial in stemming the tide and then wrapping things up (not the tide though, that would be difficult).

Leith made a poor showing of a reply and got there for the loss of 8 wickets with Rana, Heinitz and Mathos all scoring 20s. The fact we reached our target with 18 overs to spare, and that 9 of the 10 batsman who faced a ball hit boundaries, sums up the difficulties we create for ourselves at times when greater application (not least from youre truly) may serve us better.

    Rana 3 points

    Mathos 2

    Brewis 1

    Samir Patel 1

Special mention to Samir for coming into the side at short notice, taking a great catch to dismiss the divisions highest run scorer, and a cool head to finish off the game.
